X carriage
Apparently I was pretty proud of getting to this point, 'cause I took a ton of pictures.

I made a few gotchas and ended up having to remount the motors a few times. Turns out:

1. There are two sets of motors: two with short leads and two with longer ones. The ones with shorter leads are for the Y axis; the ones with longer leads need to be mounted here on the X carriage.

2. The geared pulley that drives the X axis (the one on the motor mounted with offsets from the plate) needs to be mounted *backwards* from its normal positioning, with the geared part *toward* the body of the motor, not away.

I also messed up and didn't align the rails very well at this step, and as a result the Z axis didn't mount. So, take the time to align the rails perpendicular to the plate bottom at this point (I used a machinists square).

Working on the X carriage
The X/Y assembly is definitely the most complicated part, took me maybe 3-4 hours total (which included time for some mistakes).

You can see a slight blemish in the paint on the left-hand carriage plate, but that's literally the only flaw in the kit. Everything is extremely high-quality.

Making sure I have all the parts. Turns I was short a couple of fasteners, but they were common M3 and M5 sizes, so a quick trip to the hardware store was all I needed.

I love that the kit even includes a Sharpie.
